Docu-ads

Politics has certainly gotten more interesting with the Internet. Youtube has really changed what is possible. Something like this just couldn't be done with a 30 second TV spot. I like the fact that Obama can go on the offensive to head off the coming attacks by McCain. The McCain camp should be careful because this hits much closer to the current crisis than the stuff they are trying pin on Obama, which really is largely for distraction from the current issues. What McCain was involved in was a lot more serious. The only thing that interests me about this video is that it is framed as a documentary. It certainly has a more sober style than a typical attack ad, and its length goes beyond the typical TV spot, but it is still a political ad. I guess what we are seeing here is an emerging media genre somewhere between ad and documentary.

Penguin or McCain?

Apparently I've been spending too much time on Youtube these days. There's some great Palin stuff out there. This cut from Classic Batman is a little too good to pass up though. Some rhetorical strategies in politics just never change.
